Tutankhamun, often called King Tut, became pharaoh of ancient Egypt at age 9 in 1332 BC. Because he was so young, experienced advisors likely governed on his behalf during the early years of his reign. Although he ruled for only about a decade and accomplished relatively little during his lifetime, Tutankhamun became one of history's most famous rulers after British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered his nearly intact tomb in 1922. The spectacular treasures found inside made Tut one of the ancient world's best-known figures.
